The face is scrimshawed on the surface of a piece of mammoth ivory. Note the separation of ivory layers evident on the bottom right corner. Holes in upper corners indicate it may have been attached to something in an earlier life. The item is mounted and framed in a black shadow box. The box shows some wear around the corners. Plexiglass or other acrylic covers
